Goth Icon Peter Murphy Talks 'Twilight' Cameo
By Jennifer Vineyard
Jun 30, 2010 6:39 PM EDT
Bauhaus frontman Peter Murphy has arrived onstage suspended upside down like a bat, but he went a step more goth for the latest Twilight film, guest starring as a vampire in Eclipse, which hits theaters today. The British singer tells Rolling Stone he had never read Stephenie Meyer's book series, but he thought the movies might be a good match for his music, so he approached music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas at last year's South by Southwest festival with a pitch.

"I didn't assume there would be any interest, but just as an aside, I told her, 'It would be excellent to be in the film, too,'" Murphy says. He's had previous experience, performing Bauhaus' "Bela Lugosi's Dead" in the 1983 vampire film The Hunger and has a hunch one of his tracks was key to the birth of Twilight: "I'm sure 'Bela Lugosi's Dead' helped inspire the naming of Bella," he says. "I'm not a Twilight geek, but if I had to choose between Bela [Lugosi] and Bella [Swan], I would choose Bella Swan."

Patsavas told him the casting for Eclipse was complete, but four months later director David Slade called, saying, "'Come be in my film,'" Murphy recalls. Slade offered Murphy a role as the Cold One, one of the original vampires, in a brief but "pivotal" moment, to illustrate a story about the beginnings of the werewolves' struggle with the vampires. "It's an imaginary flashback," Murphy says. "Almost like a dream sequence."

His shoot for his minute-long scene took a whole day, including makeup and choreography training so he could do the stunts himself. "They technically have this neutral gray canvas object that represents the wolf," Murphy says, "and that gives you something to fight back [against]. I couldn't fight a real wolf, though — I'm not that brave."

Now that Murphy's performed in one vampire movie and acted in another, he says he's open to continuing to play the undead as long as the roles are compelling. "I don't mind being typecast. I've been typecast for years!" he says. He likes True Blood ("Why don't they cast me as a vampire king?") and he's intrigued by the upcoming Neil Jordan/Neil Gaiman film of The Graveyard Book ("They should ask me to play Silas, shouldn't they?").

But above all, he wants to revisit his current role in one of the two upcoming Breaking Dawn films, or get his music onscreen. He says the Eclipse team considered using a slow song from his upcoming album Ninth called "Never Fall Out" in the film. "What I like about Twilight is that it's not overtly adult," he adds. "It's actually very beautiful, with no sharp teeth or protruding fangs. I think it's truly a post-modern story about vamps, and I think it works in a way. If you think about it, Edward's love for Bella leads him back to humanity, which transmutes his love into something pure and perfect," he tells RS. "I love that there is hope for what we consider to be the damned."

Hey everyone, Dartman here.

As some of you may...

Hey everyone, Dartman here.

As some of you may know, myself, the great SeaLady, and countless other FPians have been working on the world of Rivelri'e for some time now - it's been several months since we came up with the initial idea of a fantasy world with castles, medieval towns and cities, and steampunk/magically driven technology - the world was also designed with real world locations in mind, such as the Alps, Continental Europe, and the dense jungles of South East Asia.

Anyway, I have decided to (as a hobby and a project to take my mind off work) make a forum dedicated to Rivelri'e - it includes IC (In Character) play areas, off-topic areas , and character introduction areas.

However, it still needs a lot of construction work, so I'm inviting anyone who wants to help out with the forum's construction into the forum's mod squad - if you don't know what to help out with (and even if you do) PM me on the Chronicles of Rivelri'e forums, and I can suggest stuff that needs building.

Click the link below to get to the forums:
• Index page
Thanks,

Even though, potentially, most people wouldn't notice I'm gone if everything goes to plan. :sketchy: I'm moving to my new house in Chichester tomorrows, and if there's no internet connection (consider my past achievements in this area for a while to know how likely that is  ) I have no idea when I'll be regularly using the forum again.

However, an internet connection is meant to be paid for in my rent, so it better bloomin' well exist when I show up.

In any case, I mostly feel guilty for falling off the forum for 3 days already, so here's a "I might not be online until tomorrow afternoon" notice.

Soon I shall announce by Spam Forum threads every time I get up to get a tea. :awesome:

I've just spent two and a half days having a lot of lessons on how to work in a team and think like business people do... \o/ Am now feeling slightly less incompetent. Sorry I didn't warn you guys I was going away - I kind of kept assuming I'd have one last chance to go online.

Have now found a hotspot of uni internet outside the canteen, so me and my laptop are having a picnic while I wait for dinner. :P
I'll be back properly soon :D Hope no one's blown anything up!

Recently, it was my birthday (about two weeks...

Recently, it was my birthday (about two weeks ago) and for it I recieved a Sony e-Reader. Now, the reason this hasn't ben up before is because I have given it two weeks to see if my initial sceptic, bordering on cynical, view of the object needed to be tested. I decided I should give it a rigorous test, something I knew I would be unlikely to read otherwise due to a backlog of books. I decided that 19th Century classics were the direction to go in. So I went for Thomas Hardy and Tess of the d'Urbevilles. It's been taking me a while to read because I've not had much time to read, but I have formed a conclusion.

It's good. Very good! It doesn't hurt your eyes (I think the more expensive models you can change the brightness which would be useful, but having read one with this function I found it garish). I mean, you can read it for as long as normal book without any ill effect on your eyes. I read before sleep and it has never made me restless like using a computer up until I try to sleep usually does. So it destroyed my inital view of it I have been happily proven wrong. The only thing I don't like is that I find I miss the feel of paper under my fingers and the ability to just pick up a book when you left it on your bedside, but that is me been finisky. Readibility 9/10

Secondly, the price. Mine was £99.99, typically. That is quite a lot, but I bought two books for seven quid and that is pretty good!!! Price 6/10

Next, the size. It is about A5, which means more pages, but it is very easy to just click the button and change a page that you barely notice. It is short enough also to allow you to read a little bit quickly and unless your someone who has to finish the chapter, means you can finish your page and mark your place (by use of a button that virtually folds down the page, which I love!) quickly. It also will have a massive advantage when going on holiday. For example this last holiday I took eight books, which took up a lot of room and added a lot of weight, now I can concievably put all my holiday reading onto one place. Size: 9/10

Usuability is great if you're reading. But they will never replace books for research, it is quite hard to find your page, and you cannot flick through with a book to the approximate page. That is its weak point, it is only good for fiction so 5/10.

I think that is all, so in the end it scored 30/40. Quite impressive!!!

What do you all think to them?

Hey guys. Sorry I disappeared for awhile things...

Hey guys. Sorry I disappeared for awhile things got really stressful. In order:
My uncle had a heart condition and went in for surgery and there was a 35% survival chance. He's living but he's still got a lot of stuff going on so I went up for a while.
There was the Highland Games which I couldn't miss.
My ex-boyfriend, who I'm still really good friends with, broke up with his girlfriend because she was cheating on him and ended up leaning on me.
College shit and planning my trip to Europe. I'm not quite sure where I'm going yet but if any of you fine British people would like to hang out and show me around when i go that would be awesome.
Now I know you guys probably didn't need to know all that but I needed to get it off my chest and I figure some might be curious. But I'm back and am going to post the prologue to my story soon as well as start making trailers for it. So be on the look out.

National Novel Writing Month. Oh, the bitter sweet, love-hate relationship we all have with this writing competition. Has anybody started thinking of ideas? I sure have, for once!

What I'm thinking of doing is a Slender Man story (go to the something awful forum to read about him -- I'm still researching), mostly because this strange man-creature has mad me become obsessed, and because I told my boyfriend a ridiculous story of how Slender Man -- actually named Alexander Bovarlio -- is just a misunderstood soul and almost all of his, as we perceive them, "evil" actions are unintentional.
