Genetically Modified Super-Soldiers -OR- Robotic Soldiers?

Well, as ever, each country is currently trying to improve their military arsenal. That is not the question here.

The question I would like to ask is which direction do you think the USA, for example (which also happens to be the most advanced military force) is heading.

Are they going to opt of genetically modified super-soldiers, men capabale of crushing strength, heightened endurance and perception as well as augmented thought processes?

This would give the USA an army of thinking, reacting and adapting super-humans who could deal with any amount of stress, go without sleep for days on end without losing effectiveness etc.

    -OR-

Does the US opt to go for robotics? Creating remote control robot soldiers / bombers / tanks etc. which keeps people out of harms way and let's them fight from a safe location.

This would give the USA the ability to conserve men, and save life, but at the expense of huge costs for building advanced military robots.

Where you do you think the world is going, and where do you think it should go?

Re: Genetically Modified Super-Soliders -OR- Robotic Soliders?

Well as ever, ideally noone should need armies - but I don't see that happening anytime soon.
I would say that they should go the robotic route - anything that could reduce the loss of life.
However, I am inclined to think that they are more likely to go the 'super-human' route. I'm not really sure why, just a feeling I get. Mainly to do with image in a way... If you want to appear powerful, which sounds better? "We have remote control tanks", or "we have super-humans"?

When I looked at this, my mind wandered straight to a book (as always ) to a book I read called Mortal Engines, by Philip Reeve, and in there were robots that were built around a dead human brain, but devoid of any feelings of memory of their previous life. I think this may be going over the top, I'm not sure, but the actual thought of these 'Stalkers' is inevitable...
A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts it will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.

    that answered nothing...

i think we'll end up going with super-humans. we've already got a genome human project going on and believe it or not, robots aren't very effective in combat. they're slow, need serious maintenance to stay operational and they're expensive.

either way, i could still destroy them all.

I think the super-soldiers are going to be able to spell as well Cedric.

Anyway, I think super-soldiers will be the option taken and the better of two options for some reason.
